Performing Beethoven – Christus am Oelberge (Christ on the Mount of Olives) & Schubert – Mass No 6 in Eb D950
Christ on the Mount of Olives is Beethoven’s only oratorio. This dramatic work is a depiction of the emotional turmoil of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Schubert was a torch bearer at the funeral of Beethoven and the programme concludes with his great Mass No 6 in Eb. It is considered to be one of his greatest achievements and ranks among the foremost compositions of his time.
